How long does it take to recover from tonsil surgery

It is impossible to generalize how long it takes to recover from tonsil surgery. In most cases, a full recovery is possible in about half a month. Some patients with low resistance and post-operative infection in the incision may take about 1-2 months to fully recover.

How long it takes to recover from tonsil surgery depends mainly on the patient’s intraoperative and postoperative conditions. If the tonsils are well managed intraoperatively, a cool or warm soft food by mouth can be taken after 3 days postoperatively. In general, the white membrane of the tonsil surgery area starts to fall off about 1 week after surgery, and the wound can basically recover half a month after surgery without local bleeding and edema symptoms. If the patient’s body resistance is poor, the wound recovers poorly and infection occurs, the recovery time will be extended accordingly and it may take 1-2 months to recover.

The diet of post-tonsil surgery patients is especially important. Cold liquid food and abstinence from sound should be taken within 24 hours after surgery, and a semi-liquid diet and as much talking as possible can be taken 24 hours after surgery.
