Fava beans are a food that can be taken in moderation by Parkinson’s patients, but Parkinson’s treatment is mainly through medication and surgery. Currently there are studies confirming that fava beans are a natural levodopa-rich food, adding fava beans to the diet of patients with Parkinson’s disease, after the patients take the dopamine decarboxylase enzyme in the body converted into dopamine, which can play its pharmacological effects. However, fava beans are only a kind of food, the levodopa content is very small, can not play a therapeutic role, and has not been recommended for Parkinson’s treatment program. In addition after eating a large amount of fava beans, some patients may experience nausea, vomiting, in this case, should stop taking fava beans; allergic to fava beans or suffering from erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency, should not be consumed. Parkinson’s patients need to standardize treatment under the guidance of a physician, and cannot rely on food therapy to avoid delays.
