Some neuralgia, such as that caused by herpes simplex virus infection, can heal on its own after the immune system rises, which usually takes about 1 to 2 months. However, most neuralgia will not heal on its own and requires patients to be treated with medication or surgery under the guidance of a doctor. Most patients with neuralgia have primary lesions that irritate the local nerves and cause the symptoms of neuralgia to appear. For example: viral infection, malnutrition, lumbar disc herniation and so on. For some types of neuralgia, such as those caused by herpes simplex virus infections, they usually resolve spontaneously in about 1 to 2 months. For other types of patients, medication or surgical treatment needs to be taken in conjunction with the specific condition, and the treatment time is relatively long, usually taking about 3~4 months or even longer to recover.
