Difference between left hemiplegia and right hemiplegia

The difference between left hemiplegia and right hemiplegia is mainly reflected in the different sites of injury and different symptoms.
1. Different sites of injury: hemiplegia may be caused by lesions of the brainstem above the pyramidal crossing, with right hemiplegia caused by damage to the left side and left hemiplegia caused by damage to the right side. Hemiplegia may also be caused by lesions of the cervical cord and spinal cord below the intersection of the cones, resulting in paralysis of the same side of the body.
2. Symptoms: If hemiplegia is caused by a brain disease, the patient may have speech and cognitive dysfunction in addition to motor impairment of the limbs. Since most people’s speech center is located in the left hemisphere, patients with right hemiplegia are more likely to have aphasia.
Loss of the right hemisphere is often associated with loss of finger recognition, decreased numeracy, and left-right disorientation.
It is recommended that hemiplegic patients seek timely medical consultation and treatment under the guidance of specialized doctors to avoid adverse consequences. Early rehabilitation therapy can effectively improve the quality of patients’ survival and help them to improve their quality of life.
