MRI plain or enhanced for cirrhosis of the liver

Whether a patient with cirrhosis has an MRI plain or enhanced depends on the purpose of the test and the patient’s condition. If the purpose of the examination is to determine whether the patient has cirrhosis or not, MRI scanning is usually sufficient, which can determine whether the patient has cirrhosis or not by the morphology and size of the liver, hepatic fissure, the presence of regenerative nodules, the signal condition of the liver parenchyma, the size of the spleen, and the presence of portal hypertension, etc. The MRI enhancement examination is usually recommended if the patient has been previously diagnosed with cirrhosis. However, if the patient has been previously diagnosed with cirrhosis and undergoes regular review, MRI enhancement is usually recommended. Cirrhotic patients are prone to regenerative nodules in the liver, and these regenerative nodules have a certain possibility of malignant transformation, and it is difficult to identify the nature of the nodules through plain scanning, while MRI enhancement examination is conducive to the early determination of small liver cancers, so that treatment can be carried out at an early stage. Patients with liver cirrhosis are recommended to seek medical treatment in time and accept treatment actively to avoid delaying their condition. Whether to use MRI or plain scanning for examination should be determined after the doctor has made a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s condition.
