Blood amylase 170 U/L is higher than normal and needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis as to whether it should matter or not. Amylase comes from the pancreas and parotid gland. Normal blood amylase is 35~135U/L. The causes of high serum enzyme may be pancreatitis, intestinal perforation, viral hepatitis and so on. 1. Pancreatitis: manifested by pain in the left upper abdomen, accompanied by radiating pain in the left shoulder and left waist, which cannot be relieved by pain and vomiting. Blood amylase value is more than three times of the normal upper limit, abdominal pain, abdominal CT suggests inflammation of the pancreas, two of the three can be diagnosed as pancreatitis. 2. Intestinal perforation: manifested by sudden abdominal pain, accompanied by diffuse peritoneal irritation signs throughout the abdomen, and elevated blood amylase. 3. Viral hepatitis: jaundice, ascites, elevated blood amylase with elevated blood bilirubin. There are many other reasons for elevated blood amylase, so you should be vigilant and go to the hospital in time for treatment according to the doctor’s instructions.
