Survival rate of laryngeal cancer with total laryngectomy

The 5-year survival rate after total laryngectomy for laryngeal cancer is about 75%. Because of the total laryngeal surgery, the cancer is usually located in the supraglottis, infraglottis, phial fissure and epiglottis, and the invasion of the cancer is relatively large, usually in the case of hemilaryngeal, laryngeal fissure and horizontal hemilaryngeal, the mass cannot be completely removed, so clinically the total laryngectomy with regional neck contouring is often adopted. However, the laryngectomy should be performed before the operation, such as cervical lymph node ultrasound, lung CT and gastrointestinal ultrasound, to clarify the presence of lymph nodes and distant metastases in the whole body. However, if there is lymph node metastasis and systemic metastasis in total laryngectomy, the 5-year survival rate will be significantly decreased.
