What causes liver abnormalities in infants

Causes of liver function abnormalities in infants include viral infections, biliary atresia, inborn metabolic disorders and obesity.
1. Viral infection: If infants have viral infection, such as hepatitis B virus, it will damage liver function and lead to liver function abnormality.
2. Biliary atresia: When infants have congenital biliary atresia, the bile produced by the liver cannot be drained to the gastrointestinal tract, the infants will have jaundice, which may lead to abnormal liver function in the long run.
3. Inborn metabolic disorders: for example, when suffering from hepatomegaly, infants are unable to metabolize copper in the body, and copper will be deposited in the liver, resulting in impaired liver function.
4. Obesity: With the improvement of nutritional level, the fat in the body of obese infants is deposited in the liver, which will also lead to liver function abnormality.
If the infant has abnormal liver function, we should find out the corresponding causes and give targeted treatment.
