Superficial wounds generally do not require tetanus antitoxin injections. As an anaerobic bacillus, tetanus bacillus must survive in an anaerobic environment, i.e., in confined spaces, potential cavities, in order to grow and multiply. Superficial wounds do not create a confined anaerobic environment in which the tetanus bacillus can grow and multiply, and usually do not cause tetanus infections. The injection of tetanus antitoxin mainly stimulates the body to produce active immunity, causing the body to produce tetanus immunoglobulin, thus neutralizing the tetanus toxin produced by the tetanus bacteria.
