The generic name for Betaloc is metoprolol tartrate. It should not be taken together with barbiturates such as pentobarbital, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as propafenone, amiodarone, celecoxib, and calcium antagonists such as diltiazem.
1. Barbiturates such as pentobarbital, coadministration may result in increased metabolism of metoprolol, leading to increased potential for adverse effects such as fatigue, headache, dizziness, and chest pain.
2. Drugs such as propafenone, which can lead to abnormally high plasma concentrations of metoprolol, which may result in increased potential for adverse reactions such as fatigue, headache, dizziness, and chest pain.
3. With amiodarone, there is a risk of significant sinus bradycardia.
4. Co-administration with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as celecoxib may counteract the antihypertensive effect of metoprolol.
5. When combined with calcium antagonists such as verapamil and diltiazem, there is a risk of significant bradycardia as well as a drop in blood pressure.
The use of metoprolol, need to be under the guidance of clinicians, prohibit unauthorized use of drugs.
