Thickening and grossness of the bladder wall is often found and reported clinically with bladder imaging, such as a bladder ultrasound or CT exam. For ultrasound and CT exams of the bladder, it is often necessary to hold enough urine to hold up the bladder mucosa before lesions within the bladder can be detected. If the patient does not hold enough urine to fully hold up the bladder, there is a chance that the bladder wall may become thickened and gross, and it is best to hold enough urine to re-examine the bladder, which may also have inflammatory bladder changes. If still holding urine is not ideal, in order to exclude bladder lesions, cystoscopy can be done to directly observe lesions in the bladder with a mirror to find out if there are stones, inflammation, tumors, etc. and can take pathology for biopsy.
