Consider muscle strain, tibiofibular fatigue periostitis, lumbar disc herniation, bone fracture, thromboembolic vasculitis, bone tumor and other causes of anterior calf pain. 1. Muscle strain: due to strenuous exercise or sprain of the calf, there is localized swelling, walking pain, and activity limitation. 2. Tibiofibular fatigue osteochondritis dissecans: mostly caused by strenuous exercise, manifested as pain in the anterior side of the calf, localized pressure pain and slight swelling. 3. Lumbar intervertebral disc herniation: the herniated nucleus pulposus compresses the nerves which can be reflected to the pain in the calf, and some of them will have numbness. 4. Fracture: If there is trauma, pain in the front side of the calf, can not walk, there may be a fracture, need to take X-ray film to clarify. 5. Thromboembolic vasculitis: pain in the lower limbs, coldness and numbness in the limbs. Vascular ultrasound of lower limbs can make clear diagnosis. 6. Bone tumor: Bone destruction caused by the tumor can also appear anterior calf pain, X-ray film can be clear. The pain in the front side of the calf needs to go to the hospital for further examination and further treatment after clear diagnosis.
