The degree of toxicity of ethanol is highly related to the degree of poisoning. Depending on the severity of the poisoning it can be classified as mild, moderate and severe. Mild poisoning is generally mild, while in severe cases it is more serious and may even be life-threatening. Mild poisoning is mainly manifested by red eyes or pale face, dizziness, increased speech, and easy agitation. In moderate poisoning, the movements are clumsy, incoherent, and even delirious. In severe poisoning, drowsiness, cold skin, blue lips, dilated pupils, weak exhalation, and even limb paralysis, coma, and incontinence may occur. Gastric lavage can be done with 1% sodium bicarbonate or water, and naloxone can be used for treatment.
