Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection may turn negative in about 1 year, and low-grade cervical lesions will partially heal on their own, while persistence for 2 years will require surgical treatment.
HPV may lead to cervical cancer. Low-grade cervical lesions caused by high-risk HPV infection require attention and prompt antiviral treatment as well as symptomatic treatment, and infection with high-risk HPV viruses usually turns negative within 6-12 months.
Some cervical low-grade intraepithelial lesions may regress on their own. Close observation and regular review of liquid-based thin-layer cytometry and HPV are needed. If the low-grade cervical lesions persist for 2 years, cervical conization surgery is needed to treat the lesions, and the excised tissues are sent for pathology, and further treatment is needed if more serious lesions exist.
