Why Myopia Coexists with Astigmatism

Both myopia and astigmatism are refractive errors. Congenital causes and acquired causes such as poor eye habits can lead to myopia and astigmatism, and thus they can co-exist. They need to be corrected in a timely manner and eye habits need to be improved in order to control the progression of myopia and astigmatism. Myopia is mainly affected by genetic or environmental factors. Parallel light rays from the outside world fall in front of the retina after passing through the refractive system of the eye, which is called myopia. Astigmatism is a condition in which parallel rays of light pass through the eye’s refractive system and fail to focus on the retina. Astigmatism is usually caused by congenital factors. If you have astigmatism before, it may be due to a small amount of astigmatism that does not affect your vision, but if you do not pay attention to your daily eye use, the amount of astigmatism may become larger. Myopia and astigmatism can occur at the same time, but it is not possible for myopia to become astigmatism. When myopia is combined with astigmatism, it is best to go to the ophthalmology department of a local regular hospital for an optometry examination to clarify the refractive status and then correct the problem under the guidance of the doctor. Generally, it can be corrected by wearing eyeglasses, which can achieve the effect of relieving eye fatigue, and usually use the eyes reasonably, so as to control the progress of myopia and astigmatism.
