Who is at high risk for diabetes?

People at “high risk” for diabetes are those who currently have perfectly normal blood sugar, but are at increased risk of developing diabetes later in life. Many people with diabetes do not have any symptoms when their blood sugar rises. Therefore, we should identify those people who are at high risk of diabetes to be alert and prevent the emergence of diabetes. 1. People with a family history of diabetes. The genetic susceptibility to diabetes has been medically recognized, and although people with this genetic predisposition do not always develop diabetes, the chances of developing it are greatly increased. Parents, siblings or other relatives with diabetes have a five times higher chance of developing the disease than the average person. 2, obese people. Obesity and diabetes are closely related. First of all, fat people because of fat cells become hypertrophy, insulin sensitivity is reduced, easy to make blood sugar rise, in order to keep blood sugar normal, the pancreas will have to work desperately to release more insulin, resulting in hyperinsulinemia. After a long time, the pancreatic islets are exhausted and fail, insulin secretion decreases, insulin levels in the blood decrease, and blood sugar rises. Secondly, obese people are less active, making further weight gain, which has a greater impact on blood sugar. Finally, fat people are often accompanied by high blood pressure and high blood pressure, and these two factors are also independent risk factors for the development of diabetes. 3, middle-aged and elderly. The middle-aged and elderly patients who are older than 45 years old are the vulnerable group of people with diabetes. The pressure of life and work increases in middle age and mental tension, while living conditions improve, more calories are consumed, less exercise is done and calorie consumption is reduced. In addition, after middle age, various organs gradually aging, cell function gradually decline, etc., making this part of the population is prone to diabetes. 4. People with high blood pressure and dyslipidemia. Diabetes is often a hand holding hypertension, the other hand pulling dyslipidemia to affect the human body, they have been the most common complications of diabetes, but also the risk factors for diabetes, because these diseases have insulin resistance, prone to diabetes. 5, smokers. Smoking can cause damage to several organs, especially the cardiovascular system. And diabetic patients smoking for people who have had cardiovascular complications, that is adding insult to injury, harmful. 6, the lack of exercise in daily life. Exercise in addition to consuming calories, reduce obesity, but also can increase insulin sensitivity, therefore, the lack of exercise is a target of diabetes. 7, women who have had deliveries of large babies (≥4kg) and those born as huge babies (≥4kg) or underweight babies (<2kg); women with polycystic ovary syndrome are also at high risk for diabetes. People at high risk of diabetes are checked for fasting glucose and 2 hours after meal at least twice a year for early detection and early treatment.
