Repeated episodes of thrombophlebitis are also common, and the patient may experience significant pain and fever. The examination will show superficial venous tortuosity, dilatation, local congestion, edema, and even redness and swelling. The cause of varicose veins is related to prolonged upright position and weight bearing, most commonly in the left lower extremity, and in severe cases surgical treatment is required to remove the varicose vein mass. In severe cases, surgery is required to remove the varicose mass. It is also important to take care of sports and exercise, but not prolonged exertion or weight bearing. Mild varicose veins can be treated conservatively by wearing compression stockings and by swimming or jogging, which can promote venous blood flow.
