Multiple hepatic cysts are mostly caused by congenital developmental abnormalities and are benign lesions of the liver, but most patients with multiple hepatic cysts will not become cancerous, and only a very small number of patients will become cancerous. Most patients with multiple hepatic cysts do not have any uncomfortable symptoms, and they are only detected during medical checkups and imaging examinations such as ultrasound of the liver; most of the cases are related to cystic dilatation of the intrahepatic bile ducts due to compression and blockage of the bile ducts. If the cyst is small, it will not cause obvious pressure on the liver tissue and will not become cancerous. If the cyst is large, it may cause compression damage to the liver. Very few patients will become cancerous, especially if the cyst wall of the liver cyst contains adenomatous components (e.g., nodules, thicker cyst wall, calcification, etc.); and there is also a possibility of cancerous transformation of multiple liver cysts when they have been stimulated by infection for a long period of time. To summarize, if multiple liver cysts are found, it is recommended that patients should undergo regular checkups to observe the changes of liver cysts, and once signs of cancer are found, they need to consult a doctor in time for further checkups and treatments according to their conditions by professional physicians.
