If the patient can tolerate ice, can also be continuous ice, continuous ice effect is better than intermittent ice, usually can make the swelling, pain symptoms quickly get relief. If the patient cannot tolerate the cold, the ice packs should be applied for 30 minutes each time, 6-8 times a day, for a total of three days, which can significantly improve the patient’s clinical symptoms, and after three days, the patient’s condition can be used to decide whether or not to continue the ice packs. After three days, we can decide whether to continue the ice packs according to the patient’s condition. Most patients will have significant relief of swelling and pain after three days, and then we can change to heat packs. Some patients with limited swelling and pain relief need to continue ice treatment until the swelling and pain symptoms are stabilized.
