Treatment of gallbladder polyps

Whether or not a gallbladder polyp should be treated surgically is usually a combination of many factors to be considered. 1. The size of the polyp. This is a common concern. Theoretically, polyps with diameter <10mm usually have a small chance of cancer. If the diameter is >10mm, the chance of cancer will increase. Therefore, it is usually clinically recommended that if the diameter of gallbladder polyp is >10mm, it should be removed surgically. 2.The number of polyps. Usually single polyps are mostly adenomatous polyps, which is a kind of benign tumor, and it has the possibility of cancer. If there are many polyps, most of them are cholesterol crystals attached to the wall of gallbladder, which is not benign tumor. 3.The shape of polyps. Usually, polyps with wide base (peak-shaped) should be considered for early surgery; polyps with small base (with tip, such as apple or pear shape) can be suspended. 4, the location of polyps. Polyps near the exit of the gallbladder, easy to stimulate the gallbladder contraction and cause symptoms of upper abdominal discomfort, while polyps near the bottom of the gallbladder, because the cystic cavity is wide, not easy to stimulate the gallbladder contraction caused by symptoms, you can suspend surgery. 5, the thickness of the gallbladder wall at the base of the polyp. If the polyp base gallbladder wall is thick, it means that the polyp may occur from the gallbladder wall there, and surgery should be considered. If the local gallbladder wall is the same as it is, with no thickening, it means that the polyp may simply be attached to the local gallbladder mucosa (as cholesterol crystals usually are) and can be observed. 6. Dynamic changes of polyps. If after several months of observation, the polyp has a tendency to increase in size, early surgery should be performed; if after a longer period of observation, the polyp size does not change, surgery can be suspended. 7, psychological factors. Some patients learn that they have gallbladder polyps, they go online to look up information, to the bookstore to look at medical books. After seeing the information that polyps can become malignant, they are afraid that it will become gallbladder cancer in the future, so they carry a heavy burden of thought, and their symptoms are getting heavier and heavier, which seriously affects their normal work and life. For such patients, even though they do not reach the indication of surgery, they can consider early surgery. It is suggested that for such patients, it is better to have an ultrasound or color ultrasound first, and at the same time, make sure to type an ultrasound picture, and then bring the picture to a professional doctor for consultation before deciding whether to operate or not.
