Herpes simplex is an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. Herpes simplex occurs mostly at the junction of the skin and mucous membranes, and the rash manifests mainly as a limited cluster of small blisters. Herpes simplex infection is a long-term latent and recurring virus, and herpes simplex can now be manifested clinically as herpes cutis, herpes oralis, herpes genitalis, and herpes oculare. The diagnosis of herpes simplex can be determined clinically based on the characteristics of the clinical lesions and the site of the attack. Topical treatment is astringent, dry, and prevents secondary infection and can be done with topical acyclovir ophthalmic ointment. If secondary infection occurs, it can be used in combination with aureomycin eye ointment, and systemic treatment can also be given with oral acyclovir or oral ribavirin tablets.
