Adenosine monophosphate is mainly an antiviral drug. It can be used for conditions such as viral colds or viral herpes. Examples include herpes simplex, herpes zoster, pediatric hand, foot, and mouth disease, or chicken pox in children. Other drugs that have similar effects are valacyclovir, acyclovir, and ribavirin, also known as virazole. It mainly fights the herpes simplex virus, which is also the most likely viral infection. In case of skin herpes, topical acyclovir can be applied along with adenosine monophosphate injection for better results.
