Symptoms of Lymphangitis

The symptoms of lymphangitis are usually redness, swelling, heat and pain in the lower extremities in the form of lines or patches, which are mainly caused by lymphatic reflux disorder and secondary bacterial infection, commonly known as “fire flow”. The main causative agent of lymphangitis is Streptococcus haemolyticus, and most of them are treated conservatively with antibiotics, preferably penicillin G. If the lower limb is swollen due to lymphatic reflux disorder, a localized 25% magnesium sulfate wet compress can be applied to reduce edema symptoms, and the patient is advised to elevate the lower limb to reduce activity.
