Physical Therapy Hot compress: Steam with hot water at 40-45°C for 5-10 minutes, or hot towels on the upper and lower eyelids (be careful not to burn them) Massage: 1. After local heat application, gently close the eyes and place your thumb and index finger on the inner and outer canthus of the upper eyelid, applying pressure to the middle respectively (as shown below) 2. Make the lid an arch while applying a downward pressure to the upper eyelid (as shown below) 3. Apply gentle pressure to the lower eyelid in the same manner and in the direction and order shown (as shown below) Cleaning: Clean the lid margin and eyelashes with a cotton swab dipped in cleaning solution (or diluted baby shampoo) to remove secretions (as shown below) Note: This method is done once daily in the morning, and can be added once at night if symptoms are severe. Physical therapy needs to be adhered to over a long period of time, with treatment results visible in 2-3 months.
