The main causes of itchy breasts are related to clothing, the environment, hormone levels and breast disease. If underwear or tops are made of fibrous material, this can cause an allergic reaction and lead to itchy breasts; poorly ventilated or tight underwear can also cause itchiness; and when living or working in a humid environment for long periods of time, this can also lead to itchy breasts.
In the days before menstruation, the body’s hormone levels change and some women experience breast swelling and pain, while others may experience itchy breasts; breast diseases such as fungal breast infections, atopic dermatitis, breast acne, mastitis and breast cancer are also major causes of itchy breasts.
