How long does rituximab take to work in membranous nephropathy?

Rituximab treatment for membranous nephropathy usually takes 4 weeks to 12 weeks to take effect, and some patients even take half a year to take effect, the specific needs to be combined with the patient’s condition and individual constitution to determine, not generalized. Rituximab is originally a treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, but in recent years, it has been found to have a better therapeutic effect on membranous nephropathy. It has been found that rituximab can reduce the number of B-cells, decrease circulating antibody production, and reduce the damage to the glomerular filtration barrier to play a therapeutic effect. If the patient’s condition is not particularly serious and the individual is in good physical condition, 1~2 courses of treatment, i.e., 4~8 weeks, may have a better therapeutic effect. If the patient’s condition is more serious or the individual’s physical condition is poorer, the duration of the medication usually needs to be extended, and it may take about 2~3 courses of treatment, i.e., 8~12 weeks for the treatment to take effect, or the treatment time may need to be even longer. It should be noted that rituximab is contraindicated in people who are allergic to the components of the drug, pregnant and breastfeeding women, in the acute stage of rheumatoid arthritis, and in people with severe heart failure. The drug needs to be used under medical supervision, avoid self-medication. Patients with membranous nephropathy are advised to go to regular hospitals in time to give targeted treatment or therapy under the guidance of doctors.
