There are two types of stroke: ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. Stroke is a generic term used in Chinese medicine for acute cerebrovascular disease, which is characterized by sudden fainting, unconsciousness, slanting of the mouth, unfavorable speech and paraplegia. The disease is characterized by high morbidity, mortality, disability, recurrence and complications. Because of the sudden onset of the disease, the onset of the disease is rapid, “like a rock in a vein, like the speed of a storm.” The clinical symptoms are different, changeable and rapid, with fainting and convulsions, similar to the characteristics of “wind is good and changeable” in nature, so the ancient doctors took the analogy and named it “stroke”; because of its sudden onset, it is also called “Stroke”. From the viewpoint of modern medicine, stroke is a cerebrovascular accident, which is essentially a lesion of the blood vessels in the brain or the neck vessels that govern the brain, causing focal blood circulation disorders and resulting in acute or subacute brain damage.
