Season of high incidence of hand, foot and mouth

Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common infectious disease among children, and April-June is the high season for hand, foot and mouth disease in China every year, and in some areas, especially in the south, there is also a small peak in October-November in the fall. The incidence of HFMD is mainly in children aged 5 years and below, with a gradual increase in incidence from six months of age. In general, patients may present with fever, oral mucosal herpes or ulcers, and skin rashes on the hands, feet, buttocks and other parts of the body as the main features, and a few severe patients may also develop related complications, including acute encephalitis, brainstem encephalitis, acute flaccid paralysis, pulmonary edema, pulmonary hemorrhage, and cardiorespiratory failure, and other conditions. HFMD is mainly contracted through close contact with the patient’s feces, toys, handkerchiefs, towels and other items, and is most contagious in the first week after the onset of illness.
