There are three principles for the combined treatment of iron deficiency anemia in Chinese and Western medicine: 1. Iron supplementation. Iron therapy is indispensable whether or not you take Chinese medicine. Oral iron is the main method of iron supplementation, commonly used iron: ferrous sulfate, polysaccharide iron complex, etc. To help iron absorption, vitamin C should be added at the same time. dietary iron supplementation is also a method that should not be ignored, for example: use iron pots and pans for cooking utensils, not aluminum; eat more meat foods, fungus, etc. Due to long-term misconceptions, spinach is considered by the public to be high in iron, but in fact, it does not contain much iron. In order not to affect the absorption of iron, you should drink less tea and less coffee. 2, etiological treatment, the common causes of iron deficiency are three: reduced digestion and absorption, excessive loss, and increased demand. Patients with chronic gastritis, enteritis and other gastrointestinal diseases have iron deficiency due to impaired absorption of iron. Excessive iron loss is seen mainly in chronic or recurrent bleeding from the GI tract and in women due to excessive menstruation. Increased demand is seen in children and adolescents or in pregnant and lactating women. Treatment of the cause is the first principle in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. Therefore, male patients must be checked for concomitant bleeding from gastrointestinal diseases, especially peptic ulcers, and middle-aged and elderly patients should be especially alert to gastrointestinal tumors. The most important cause of iron deficiency in female patients of childbearing age is increased menstruation. Gynecological examination and treatment of gynecological diseases are important for effective treatment of iron deficiency. Iron supplementation is often ineffective in the case of increased menstruation. 3. Spleen and kidney supplementation is a common method of treating iron deficiency anemia in Chinese medicine. Zuo Gui Wan, Gui Spleen Tang, Bazhen Tang, Si Jun Zi Tang and other formulas to nourish the spleen and kidney are all common formulas for treating iron deficiency. When applying them, you can add or subtract from these formulas according to the four diagnoses of tongue and pulse and the concurrent conditions. Taking Chinese medicine can help relieve the symptoms of anemia, promote iron absorption and utilization, and facilitate recovery from anemia, however, taking Chinese medicine cannot replace iron. The idea and practice of replacing iron with herbal medicine is wrong. The main reasons for poor efficacy after regular iron treatment are: 1. Wrong diagnosis. A new examination and diagnosis is needed; 2. The presence of digestive tract diseases and poor absorption of oral iron. Treatment of digestive tract diseases should be intensified or switched to intravenous iron supplementation; 3. Continuous chronic blood loss.
