Tetanus shot generally refers to tetanus antitoxin. Tetanus antitoxin is required for a fishhooked finger. Tetanus antitoxin has an active immunizing effect against tetanus and should not be given to allergic individuals.
Patients need to be vaccinated with tetanus toxin after getting their fingers hooked by a fishhook. This is because fish hooks may contain tetanus bacillus, which may cause tetanus when it enters the human body, and in serious cases, it can be life-threatening. Tetanus antitoxin has the effect of active immunization against tetanus, so patients need to be inoculated.
It should be noted that some patients may have adverse reactions such as erythema and hard nodules at the injection site after tetanus antitoxin vaccination. If the patient is allergic to tetanus antitoxin then it cannot be inoculated and tetanus immunoglobulin can be used instead.
Patients whose fingers were hooked by fish hooks to be injected with tetanus antitoxin are advised to seek prompt medical attention for vaccination.
