Bedwetting refers to unconscious urination during sleep in addition to normal voluntary urination. It is physiological in newborns and infants, and is usually caused by pathological factors such as neurogenic bladder infection and posterior urethral valve disease, in addition to functional after the age of three. Bedwetting is first distinguished from persistent urinary incontinence, and if it occurs in young women, most of them may have ectopic ureteral opening, which is the opening of the ureter, not in the bladder, but in the urethra. In children older than six years of age who present with bedwetting, a urological examination, such as KUB plus intravenous pyelogram, should be done to effectively confirm the diagnosis.
