The treatments for patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal cancer include radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery, immunotherapy and so on. 1. Radiation therapy: it is the first choice for treating nasopharyngeal cancer because nasopharyngeal cancer has moderate sensitivity to radiation therapy. 2. Chemotherapy: its functions are as follows: (1) Chemotherapeutic drugs can be used as sensitizers to increase the sensitivity of tumor to radiation. (2) Chemotherapy can be used to shrink the tumor to a certain degree before radiotherapy. (3) Used in patients with distant metastases. (4) After radiotherapy, prophylactic chemotherapy can be administered based on the cellular kinetic cycle. Combined treatment of radiotherapy and chemotherapy: patients with advanced nasopharyngeal cancer can adopt this plan, and the effect of combined treatment is far better than single treatment. 3. Surgical treatment: the indications are as follows: (1) Localized lesions in nasopharynx do not subside or recur after radiotherapy. (2) Metastasis in cervical lymph nodes, which does not subside after radiotherapy and the primary lesion in nasopharynx has been controlled. 5. Immunotherapy: such as PD-1 inhibitor. Patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal cancer should go to the hospital in time and receive standardized treatment under the guidance of doctors.
