How many days do I need to stay in the hospital for open heart surgery?

The amount of time patients need to rest after open heart surgery is related to the type of disease, and generally rest for about 7 days for basic recovery. Open surgery is a common treatment method for abdominal diseases, such as acute appendicitis, gastric cancer, colon cancer, cholecystitis and many other abdominal diseases that require surgical treatment. The recuperation time after surgery is related to the severity of the disease, the patient’s physical condition, the surgical method and other factors. Acute appendicitis, treated by conventional open surgery, can generally be cured in about 1 week of recuperation; while purulent appendicitis and periappendiceal abscess require 10-14 days or even longer recuperation; and after radical surgery for gastric cancer and colon cancer, patients with poor physical condition and slow recovery after surgery need 1-3 months or even longer recuperation to recover. In addition, after open surgery, patients should get enough sleep, follow doctors’ treatment, eat liquid food, semi-liquid food and general food, change medication in hospital regularly, and follow doctors’ instructions for review in hospital.
