In general, when the patient’s ability to absorb joint fluid is restored and balanced with the ability to produce it, when the swelling and fluid accumulation reaction of the joint subsides. The general duration is: Adolescents: 0-3 months Middle age: 3-12 months Elderly: 6-24 months Menopausal women: 12-24 months, with individual patients responding for several years to the end of menopause.
