Does Cervical Cone Surgery Prolapse the Uterus?

Cervical conization surgery does not usually cause uterine prolapse. Cervical conization surgery is performed to partially remove the cervix because of cervical disease. The cause of uterine prolapse is related to laxity of the pelvic floor supportive tissues and overstretching of the pelvic floor fascia, ligaments and muscles, resulting in decreased support. A hysterectomy removes only part of the cervix and does not affect the pelvic floor support tissues. Prolapse of the uterus is due to overstretching of the pelvic floor fascia, ligaments and muscles in a woman, and a decrease in their supportive strength. Uterine prolapse may also occur after menopause when the supporting tissues atrophy and the pelvic floor relaxes. Prolonged increase in abdominal pressure, such as chronic cough, obesity, constipation, etc. can easily cause uterine prolapse. Obstetrics and gynecology consultation is recommended when uterine prolapse occurs.
