What is the role of erythromycin ointment

Erythromycin ointment is an anti-inflammatory ointment that acts mainly as an antibacterial or antiseptic agent. It is usually used clinically for local infections of the skin and can be used for folliculitis or small inoculations. Erythromycin ointment can also be used for sweat glands and seborrhea. It is an antimicrobial agent belonging to the macrolide class and is quite effective for gram-positive bacterial infections. However, it does not have much advantage for deep abscesses and skin diseases caused by Gram-negative bacterial infections.
