What’s wrong with a four-month-old’s foamy poop?

Four-month-old babies with foamy stools can be caused by lactose intolerance, acute gastroenteritis, indigestion and other reasons.
1. Lactose intolerance: breast milk and some milk powder contains lactose, if the baby has lactase deficiency or lactose intolerance, lactose in the colon will be fermented by bacteria and produce gas, which in turn causes foamy stools.
2. Acute gastroenteritis: Babies may suffer from viral infections or eat too cold or too hot food, which may lead to acute gastroenteritis, resulting in a decline in gastrointestinal function of the baby. The fermentation of food residues produces gas, and the baby may have foamy stools.
3. Indigestion: The digestive system of a four-month-old baby is not yet well developed and may suffer from indigestion. Food stays in the stomach and intestines for a long time and fermentation produces gas, which may make the baby excrete foamy stools.
There may be other reasons for four-month-old babies to have foamy stools. When babies have foamy stools, parents are advised to take their babies to the hospital for examination, diagnosis and treatment by specialized doctors.
