A cervical biopsy with pathology results in squamous epithelial metaplasia, which means that the cervical cervix originally had an outgrowth of columnar epithelium. It is called squamous epithelial hyperplasia when the surface of the columnar epithelium is covered with squamous epithelium clinically. This is a benign process and regular checkups are not necessary. It is recommended to have annual screening for cervical cancer even if there is no discomfort, to find out whether there are lesions on the cervical epithelium and whether there is high-risk HPV infection. By actively giving treatment when abnormalities are detected, the occurrence of cervical cancer is eliminated. Cervical cancer is caused by persistent infection with high-risk HPV, so regular cervical cancer screening is very important for women.
