Will blood pressure be normal with anemia?

In patients with anemia, blood pressure may be normal, elevated, or decreased, closely related to the individual’s specific condition. Anemia is a clinical syndrome that occurs when the volume of red blood cells in the peripheral blood is lower than normal. Clinically, anemia can be mild, moderate, severe, or very severe. In general, in patients with mild anemia, there is no significant effect on blood pressure, and blood pressure may be normal in this case. However, if a patient is moderately and severely anemic or more and has been anemic for a longer period of time, the body’s cardiopulmonary function will compensate and a mild increase in blood pressure will often occur; when the anemia improves, the blood pressure may gradually drop to the normal range; however, if a person has symptoms of anemia due to blood loss in a short period of time, a drop in blood pressure will occur due to insufficient blood volume, and in severe cases, it will lead to hemorrhagic shock. Therefore, in patients with anemia, blood pressure can be normal, increased, or decreased.
