The causes of rapid heartbeat can be categorized as physiological or pathological. Pathological conditions are generally considered to be related to tachyarrhythmia, heart failure, myocardial infarction and other cardiovascular diseases, hyperthyroidism, systemic diseases, and so on.
1. Physiological: such as after exercise, emotional anxiety, drinking coffee and other causes of sympathetic nerve excitation, will cause the heart rate to accelerate, this is a normal physiological response, usually after rest can be restored to normal.
2. Pathologic:
(1) Cardiovascular diseases: such as supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrial tachycardia and other tachyarrhythmias, the patient’s heart rate is usually more than 100 beats/minute, which can be accompanied by panic discomfort; heart failure, myocardial infarction, myocarditis and so on, can also cause compensatory heart rate acceleration or myocardial injury induced arrhythmia.
(2) Hyperthyroidism: the patient’s heart rate is accelerated due to excessive secretion of thyroid hormone, and the patient may feel panic, accompanied by irritability, hand tremor, fear of heat, etc. Generally, the diagnosis can be clarified through the thyroid function test and ultrasound.
(3) Systemic diseases: such as fever, severe anemia can lead to compensatory heart rate.
If the patient appears to have a fast heartbeat, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time, to clarify the cause of the disease and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
