The occurrence of intestinal obstruction in colon cancer is not necessarily advanced stage.
Colon cancer is a kind of malignant tumor originated from the epithelial part of colon mucosa, and intestinal obstruction is one of the more common ones. However, the occurrence of intestinal obstruction does not necessarily mean that the patient’s condition has developed to the advanced stage. The occurrence of intestinal obstruction, in addition to the infiltration of advanced metastatic tumor foci or compression of intestinal tubes, may also be the obstruction of intestinal lumen caused by the primary tumor foci.
Relying on the symptom of intestinal obstruction cannot judge which stage of colon cancer patients are in, because intestinal obstruction is not a unique symptom of advanced colon cancer. Patients with colon cancer should make a clear diagnosis of the disease according to relevant examination results and clinical staging of the disease before implementing appropriate treatment plans.
