Nitroglycerin injection dosage

Nitroglycerin is usually administered with 1-5 mg dissolved in 5% or 10% of 100 ml of glucose solution. If the drug is administered by micropump, 20-50mg can be dissolved in 50ml of solution, starting from 5-10μg/min, and the dose can be increased by 25%-50% every 5-10 minutes depending on the patient’s actual response, until a more satisfactory effect can be achieved, with a maximum dose of 1500μg/min. This drug is mainly used for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, and acute left heart failure. If applied continuously, nitrates may become resistant more quickly, so intermittent or eccentric dosing is recommended. Anti-oxidant free radical vitamin C helps to prevent the development of resistance to nitrates. Besides, diuretics also contribute to nitrate resistance. For patients who have been using such drugs for a long time, it is important to gradually reduce the dose and stop taking them, otherwise a drug reduction syndrome may occur, aggravating the patient’s symptoms and risking sudden death.
