Can you operate for lower esophageal cardia cancer at age 85?

Eighty-five-year-old lower esophageal cardia cancer can be considered for surgery if it is stage I, II and part of stage III esophageal cancer (T3N1M0 and part of T4N1M0), and the general condition is good. Currently, the tumor principle of esophageal cancer is multidisciplinary and comprehensive treatment. Early esophageal cancer can be treated endoscopically, while surgery is the preferred method for resectable esophageal cancer. Precise TNM staging is required before surgery. The indications for surgery for esophageal cancer include stage I, II and part of stage III esophageal cancer (T3N1M0 and part of T4N1M0), better systemic condition, able to tolerate surgery, and recurrence after radiotherapy but without distant metastasis. Esophageal cancer also has contraindications to surgery, including stage IV esophageal cancer, poor cardiopulmonary function or serious diseases of other organs, which are unable to tolerate surgery. It is recommended that patients should go to regular hospitals in time and listen to the advice of professional doctors.
