Enhanced CT of the abdomen requires fasting, and enhanced CT imaging of the stomach and intestines also requires fasting. Fasting is not required for CT of the chest and skull. In the process of abdominal and gastrointestinal enhanced CT examination, the patient needs to be injected with contrast agent intravenously, and a small number of people may have allergic reactions, such as nausea, vomiting and other symptoms in the process of injecting contrast agent. Once the patient eats, it is easy to choke on the vomit, in addition to that, the food will also interfere with the examination results. Therefore, before doing the enhanced CT examination, you need to fast for 4 to 8 hours, and then carry out the corresponding examination. Fasting is usually not required for CT of the chest and skull. Don’t leave within 15 minutes after the Enhanced CT examination, to prevent accidents, stay in the place where the examination is performed, and contact your doctor to solve any discomfort.
