Flu is coming, how pregnant women should protect themselves

Recently, the WeChat circle of friends was screened by “middle-aged Beijing under the flu”. The old man in the article did not pay attention to the flu, and his family also gave in to his stubbornness, but in less than a month, his condition took a sharp turn for the worse, followed by whistle distress syndrome and multi-organ failure, which eventually led to tragedy. After reading this article, I can’t help but sigh that the flu is coming rapidly, the rapid development of the extension, it really makes people surprised. Influenza, an acute respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus, is often treated as a common cold in real life, and even many medical professionals often do not take it seriously. We often hear the words, “It’s just a cold? You’ll be fine in a few days.” Yet historical influenza outbreaks (Europe in 1918 and Mexico in 2009) have been no less morbid and deadly than SARS. flu patients die, not simply because of the virus itself, but often because of complications and other organ failures caused by the flu virus. Pregnant women, as a susceptible population alongside the elderly and children, are not immune to influenza once they are infected during pregnancy, both for themselves and their fetus. According to reports, the 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus outbreak in the United States, were infected pregnant women, 22% of them into intensive care units, 5 percent eventually died, this mortality rate is much higher than the flu in the overall population of 0.1 percent mortality rate. So what should pregnant women do to protect themselves under the flu? 1.Avoid contact with infectious sources During the high season of influenza, that is, from November to March every year, pregnant women should try to avoid going to crowded occasions. In addition if someone in the family has the flu, or an unknown upper whistle infection, or an unexplained fever, they should be isolated accordingly. 2, cut off the transmission route In view of the transmission route of influenza is mainly droplet transmission, so often wear a mask outside is the best way to block the transmission route. In addition, a small amount of virus can be left on the desktop, cell phone or other flat surfaces, and then spread through the contact between fingers and eyes, mouth and nose. Therefore, pregnant women should do is usually wash their hands regularly, develop the habit of not casually touching their eyes, mouth and nose before washing their hands, and try not to do close body contact, such as kissing. 3.Protect pregnant women, a vulnerable group, focus on prevention! The emphasis is on prevention! The emphasis is on prevention! The important thing to say three times. In the United States, the flu vaccine and the diphtheria vaccine are used as two of the routine vaccinations during pregnancy. Although not mandatory in China, the CDC’s Technical Guidelines for the Application of Seasonal Influenza Vaccine in China (2014-2015) clearly states that influenza vaccination is safe and effective. And pregnant women, as a susceptible group, should be recommended for immunization as a priority. However, there are often ignorant people who are overly cautious about the vaccination of pregnant women, fearing that the vaccination will be harmful to them and their fetus. In fact, influenza vaccine is an inactivated vaccine that is now recognized to be used throughout pregnancy and will not affect the fetus in the womb. Others are discouraged by the frequent problems with the vaccine in our country, but it would not be worth the cost to expose pregnant women to a greater danger because of individual cases. This is why it is important to get the flu vaccine before the high flu season (i.e., September-October each year) to protect you throughout your pregnancy. While “Middle-aged Beijingers under the Flu” has aroused a lot of attention on the Internet, it is also thought-provoking – the flu, which is often mistaken as a cold, is actually lurking around us. Pregnant women, being susceptible to influenza, should pay attention to self-protection so that they can pass through this special physiological period safely and smoothly. If a pregnant woman has symptoms of upper whistle infection during pregnancy, when it persistently does not improve and appears high fever, chest pain, difficulty in breathing, etc., she should go to a general hospital internal medicine department as soon as possible for a clear diagnosis. In case of unfortunate influenza infection during pregnancy, it should be treated with Tamiflu as soon as possible. There are no reported effects of Tamiflu use during pregnancy on the fetus.
