Is the prognosis for stage 3a colon cancer better than stage 2?

The prognosis of colon cancer stage IIIA is usually not as good as stage II, and generally the later the staging, the worse the prognosis.

Colon cancer is a common malignant tumor, which can be caused by a variety of factors such as poor dietary habits and genetic mutations. One of the important criteria for judging prognosis is clinical staging.

Stage IIIA is when the tumor invades the submucosal layer, 4-6 regional lymph node metastasis occurs, no distant metastasis, etc. Stage II is when the tumor penetrates the solid layer. In stage II, the tumor penetrates the intrinsic muscle layer to the subplasma layer; there is no lymph node metastasis; there is no distant metastasis and so on. It can be seen that stage II tumor invasion is shallow and not accompanied by lymph node metastasis, while stage IIIA is more complicated and serious than stage II.

Therefore, generally speaking, stage II is easier to treat than stage IIIA and has better prognosis, so when suffering from colon cancer, one should actively consult doctor and follow doctor’s instruction for reasonable treatment.
