In China, mother-to-child transmission is the most important way of transmission of hepatitis B. 30%-50% of infected people are infected by mother-to-child transmission. 2006 National Hepatitis B Seroepidemiological Survey shows that the prevalence of HBsAg among women of childbearing age in China is 6.61%, which means that there are nearly 7 hepatitis B virus infected women for every 100 women of childbearing age. Women infected with hepatitis B virus can of course have healthy children by some means, can they have healthy babies, but can they breastfeed after giving birth? The Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B state that newborns can receive breastfeeding from HBsAg-positive mothers after HBIG and hepatitis B vaccine are administered within 12 hours of birth. However, breastfeeding is not recommended if the mother is taking therapeutic drugs whose safety to the infant cannot be determined. In addition, breastfeeding is recommended to be suspended in the following cases: 1. mothers with cracked nipples and oozing blood; 2. mothers with abnormal liver function; 3. newborns with oral ulcers and mucosal damage. Although there is no method that can guarantee 100% effectiveness of mother-to-child blockade of hepatitis B virus, it is certain that pregnant women with hepatitis B virus infection can give birth to healthy babies with effective blockade measures under the guidance of doctors.
