How to review patients who underwent gastric cancer surgery after recovery is a concern for all patients. In order to preserve the basal data, the basic examination is usually done in 4~6 weeks after surgery, and the review is done every 3~6 months afterwards. The content and time of review may be adjusted according to the patient’s specific condition. Generally speaking, the standard items of postoperative review for gastric cancer include: 1. General examination: physical examination, fecal occult blood test, CEA, CA19-9, liver and kidney function, etc., once every three months within one year after surgery. If there is any abnormality once a month; from 2 years to 5 years after surgery, once every 6 months; more than 5 years after surgery, once a year. 2.Imaging examination: CT is recommended once every 4 weeks after surgery, once every 6 months within 3 years, and once a year from 3 years to 10 years. Abdominal ultrasound (liver, biliary, pancreatic, retroperitoneum, etc., kidney), once 3 months after surgery; every 6 months from 1 year to 3 years thereafter, and once a year to lifetime after 3 years. 3.Gastroscopy: once every 6 months from postoperative to 3 years after surgery; after 3 years after surgery for gastric cancer, once a year until the end of life. 4.X-ray chest X-ray, barium X-ray meal, MRI, etc. should be used as appropriate. 5.Special examination: bone scan once every six months within 1 year after surgery; once a year from 1 year to 3 years after surgery; later on, use as appropriate. Recurrence and metastasis are more common in the early stage of progressive gastric cancer after surgery. The most common forms of recurrence and metastasis of gastric cancer include: abdominal implant metastasis, liver metastasis, retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis and local recurrence; in addition, there are less common forms of metastasis such as bone metastasis, lung metastasis, bone marrow metastasis, brain metastasis and even skin metastasis. Follow-up review is important to detect tumor progression and establish treatment plan in time. If economic conditions allow, please do not neglect the importance of follow-up examinations and file the follow-up data carefully, do not discard it after the examination. In addition, because of the high cost of the full set of tests, you can consult your treating doctor before the review, so that you can choose the most suitable tests according to your own situation.
