The efficacy and function of glucose mainly include replenishing energy, intravenous nutrition therapy, relieving hypoglycemia, treating hyperkalemia, etc. It can also be used as drug diluent and so on. 1. Supplementary energy: when patients are unable to eat due to various reasons, they can take glucose as prescribed by doctors to increase the concentration of plasma glucose and relieve the discomfort caused by glucose drop. 2. Intravenous nutrition therapy: generally adapted to various postoperative, burns and cancer and other diseases. When patients cannot get enough glucose through normal channels, glucose can be prepared into different concentrations of 25%~50% and infused to supplement the nutrients needed by the body. 3. Hypoglycemia: When a person does not eat regularly, he/she will have hypoglycemia manifestations such as dizziness and weakness. In the above cases, oral glucose is preferred, and in serious cases, 50% glucose can be pushed intravenously for treatment following medical advice. 4. Hyperkalemia: When patients are hyperkalemia caused by various factors, intravenous glucose solution can be injected according to doctor’s instruction, which can effectively reduce the concentration of potassium in blood. However, it is necessary to take the treatment of potassium excretion at the same time, so as to avoid the recurrence of hyperkalemia. 5. Drug diluents: clinically, different concentrations of glucose can also be used as drug diluents, generally for diabetic patients without special circumstances, it is not recommended to use glucose solution as a drug diluent, so as not to lead to elevated blood sugar. High concentration glucose infusion can cause phlebitis. Uncontrolled diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperglycemic non-ketotic hypertonic state is prohibited. Drug use should be under medical supervision.
