Characteristics of hypertensive dizziness

Many patients with hypertension often go to the hospital because of “dizziness” in their daily life. As a common clinical symptom, dizziness can be caused by many diseases. So what are the characteristics of dizziness in hypertension? Dizziness in hypertension is usually persistent rather than paroxysmal, and is usually not accompanied by visual rotation, which can be distinctly different from vertigo caused by inner ear vertigo or vestibular neuritis, etc. Some of them are transient and often appear when suddenly squatting or standing up. In addition, dizziness in hypertension can also be manifested as: dizziness, head swelling (top of head, temple area, or even full headache), lack of freshness in the mind, a feeling of wrapping cloth in severe cases, blurred vision, swelling and pain in the eyes, etc. The back is sore and the legs are weak, walking lightly, or even falling to the east and west, unable to walk along a straight line. However, when hypertensive crisis or insufficient blood supply to the vertebrobasilar artery occurs, symptoms similar to those of inner ear vertigo can occur. There are other causes of dizziness such as: (a) Non-vestibular dizziness: 1. Cardiovascular disease: arrhythmia. 2. 2. Blood disorders: anemia. 3, endocrine diseases: hypoglycemia. 4, environmental changes: high temperature, hypoxia. 5, Over-activity: prolonged standing, overwork, etc. 6.Minor post-traumatic head injury syndrome. 7, Visual fatigue and eye diseases: myasthenia gravis, glaucoma. 8, Psychogenic dizziness: also known as psychogenic dizziness. 9, cervical spondylosis. (b) Vestibular dizziness: posterior circulation ischemia (insufficient blood supply to the vertebrobasilar artery), cerebral hemorrhage, brain tumor, encephalitis or demyelinating disease, vertiginous epilepsy; benign episodic positional vertigo, Meniere’s disease, vestibular neuronitis, vaginitis, lymphangiolemmal leakage, etc. So many diseases can cause dizziness, therefore, if dizziness occurs, especially in patients with hypertension, it is recommended to go to the hospital immediately, and a doctor’s examination and auxiliary tests (such as CT or MRI of the head) are needed to comprehensively assess the condition and then give effective management.
